South_Africa - The Garden Route, or Tuinroute in Dutch, lies along South Africa’s southern coast and is one of the country’s highlights. The route stretches from Mossel Bay to Plettenberg Bay, featuring stunning natural scenery with deep sea inlets, rivers, and sandy beaches. Rugged cliffs alternate with beautiful beaches, and the sea inlets reach far inland, with fynbos growing to the shore and dunes. The Garden Route passes through varied landscapes of wild vegetation, indigenous forests with massive Yellowwood Trees, and abundant flowers, especially between July and December. Highlights include bays such as Herold’s Bay, Victoria Bay, and Buffalo Bay. The route also traverses mountains with native forests and fynbos. Must-see spots include Wilderness National Park, the Cango Caves, and Knysna Forest. Wilderness National Park spans 30 km of pristine coastline, with beaches and lakes connected by rivers, hosting nearly 80 species of waterbirds, ideal for hiking and fishing. The Cango Caves, 30 km from Oudtshoorn, are a series of limestone caves, commercial but still impressive. Knysna Forest is a beautiful indigenous forest for cycling, picnicking, walking, and hiking. The Outeniqua Hiking Trail is a renowned 105-kilometer trek.
