Suriname - Just before the Peperpot plantation, we take a small path and cycle toward the plantation. The coffee and cocoa plantation is in poor condition. The director’s house is on the verge of collapse. However, restoration work is underway — though it often means total reconstruction. Guy asks the caretaker of Peperpot for a tour, but he’s not very eager — though he might show up. After a few minutes of waiting, the caretaker comes out and, in front of his house, tells us about the plantation. He shares its rise and fall and explains how coffee and cocoa were processed. As we ask more questions, he becomes more enthusiastic. At our request, the lock on the factory is opened, and we get a tour inside. The bats inhabiting the oven clearly aren’t used to visitors. Afterward, he takes us to the village of Peperpot and gives us a tour there. Around two o'clock, we thank the guide and get back on our bikes.
