Argentina - We regroup at the restaurant and drive back to Ushuaia. We're dropped off in the city center and just have time to grab a quick sandwich. Sandwich in hand, we head to the harbor to check in for the boat tour. We sail out into the Beagle Channel. The weather has turned beautiful, with a clear blue sky. Along with our group, a few other travelers—including four French tourists—are on the boat. We head towards the lighthouse. Ushuaia looks stunning, reflecting in the water with snow-covered mountains behind it. Our guide, Daniëlle, uses a large map to explain our route. The captain, Pipo, steers us toward the lighthouse. The Beagle Channel is rich with wildlife. An albatross swims ahead of us but flies off when we get too close. A young sea lion plays in the water, and we spot many birds. We circle the red-and-white-striped lighthouse that marks the bay of Ushuaia. Passing small rocky islands, we head back. On one islet, terns are resting; on another, thousands of cormorants. We also see sea lions on the rocks, a swimming penguin, and a number of albatrosses. At a larger island, we dock and take a walk. Daniëlle explains the shrubs and plants—there are no trees here. After four hours at sea, we return to Ushuaia’s harbor. On the main shopping street, I buy a T-shirt and a cap from “the end of the world,” then we head to a restaurant. The place specializes in crab. We end the evening at “Tante Sara” with coffee and Sambuca.
