Bosnia_and_Herzegovina - We leave Sarajevo and drive into the hills on the other side of the Miljacka River. The navigation leads us through winding back roads into the mountains, where some roads rise steeply with gradients of more than twenty percent. We have to take a run-up and hope not to meet oncoming traffic. The Trebevic Mountains hosted the 1984 Winter Olympics, but the facilities are now heavily neglected. Especially the remains of the bobsleigh track, full of graffiti, symbolize this neglect. It is surreal to walk through the concrete structure of the bobsleigh track, where snipers hid during the war. From the hill, we also have a beautiful view over Sarajevo. It is hard to imagine that this beautiful city was torn apart by war and conflict in the 1990s. Sarajevo, once known as the Jerusalem of Europe for its religious diversity, has recovered and is today a vibrant city with a rich history and culture. The Trebevic Mountains offer a refuge for hikers and nature lovers. There are several hiking routes through the mountains, varying in length and difficulty. The surroundings offer beautiful nature with views of the city, and it is definitely worth going into the mountains to enjoy the peace and quiet.
