Latvia - We walk to the Cathedral Square. The enormous cathedral is simply too large to fit into a single photo. Inside, I find the nave less impressive, but the adjacent cloister garden is very special. From the cathedral square, we continue toward the Town Hall Square. This square suffered heavy damage during World War II. All the buildings here have been reconstructed. The beautiful Town Hall dates from 2001, and the ornate façades of the House of the Blackheads Guild have also been rebuilt. The nearby St. Peter’s Church is authentic, although its tower has collapsed several times due to fire and lightning. During the latest restoration, an elevator was added to the tower. From the observation point 75 meters up, we have a great view of Riga’s old town. From this height, we can clearly see the route we walked this morning and the landmarks we still want to visit.
