San_Marino - San Marino is one of the smallest countries in Europe, completely surrounded by Italy. The country originated atop a rocky outcrop at an elevation of 700 meters. From its three defensive towers, one could oversee the surrounding area. It is an enclave entirely encircled by Italy. The country covers just over 61 square kilometers and has a population of around 30,000 people. The capital is also named San Marino. The constitution of San Marino, established in 1600, is the world’s oldest still in effect today. The national economy primarily relies on finance, industry, services, and tourism. It is one of the wealthiest countries in the world. We parked almost at the top, at the edge of the pedestrian zone. We walked to our hotel through the narrow, cozy streets. It was busy with day-trippers. From the city wall, we looked down into the valley. We visited the town hall with the coat of arms of the warrior Saint Marinus and entered two of the three towers. In the evening, we dined on a terrace with a view over the valley.
